Toronto never ceases amaze me with it’s different cultures and neighbourhoods. Anytime I’m brainstorming of a photoshoot location, whether it’s for an engagement shoot or wedding portraits – I am always blown away with what the city has the offer. For this particular urban engagement shoot, we wanted something to reflect their wedding vibe. Robyn and Brendan ended up having an intimate restaurant wedding at the George Restaurant (blog on that coming up soon!) and so wanted to keep with the urban feel! My immediate thought was to photograph their session in Liberty Village! Liberty Village has lots of history and does not have a shortage of beautiful architecture, alleyways, cobblestone and brick walls. We wandered up and down the quiet alley ways just until the sun set. We really could’ve been in a different country for all we know! I love shooting downtown and amongst buildings because of all the beautiful light that shines through between buildings. It’s definitely not something you can get shooting outdoors in fields!

My favourite part of this downtown Toronto engagement shoot, however, is how incredibly classy and stunning these two looked together. The red of Robyn’s gorgeous dress paired incredibly well with the warehouse walls. Would you believe it, she was almost on the fence about wearing such a bright bold colour? I understood the hesitation (because to be fair, my wardrobe is all blacks, and neutrals) but so overjoyed and more than ecstatic with how the photos turned out! From now on, I will encourage more colours (especially red!) because the colour popping is just unreal! It worked so beautifully with the sunsetting and colours changing in the sky as well. I am so happy with how all the photos turned out in Liberty Village and will definitely be one to remember for a long time!
